Jagged Environment was born from a search for significance. It delineates how life came to be, and questions its purpose in the context of an environment which is unique. It is the particular composition of the Earth which naturally spawns and evolves life over time, in a continual thread of creation. The Earth is an organic planet, which gave life no choice but to emerge upon its surface. Within the unique environment act natural gradients and cycles of climate change: causing global warming, flooding, ozone loss, disease and famine. Hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis and supervolcanoes are also intrinsic to the nature of the Earth itself. Life extinction events on a massive scale have happened throughout Earth's history, and will happen again. Moving through a collection of reflections and considerations concerning the environment, Jagged Environment ultimately finds its significance within an Earth-centred philosophy, that the supremacy of our inventions and technology is an illusion, and our reality is to exist only at the mercy of natural forces against which we are utterly powerless.
